How much does a cup of sugar weigh?
A cup of granulated white sugar weighs about 209 g with a 250 mL Canadian cup, and 198 g with a US cup. The weight varies a lot with the type of sugar: packed brown sugar is heavier, while icing sugar, which is very fine and airy, weighs almost half as much.
Brown sugar and icing sugar
Unless the recipe says otherwise, brown sugar is measured packed: press it into the cup until it holds its shape when turned out. Icing sugar is measured without packing; sifted, it's even lighter. Maple syrup and honey are much denser than sugar.
